What does the HCL mean?
So HCL is how they measure it? What does it mean?

herbal ephedra is usually in tea, but ephedrine hcl is how most people measure the amount of the drug (in pills, etc.)

More info: The addict has problems with Ritalin, Cocaine, some pot about every 5 months. The person has been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, (why the Ritalin) and now wants to kick the RItalin and continue the Ephedra.

Won’t it lead to abuse of the Ephedra and lead to other use?

That`s the problem with being a recovering addict ………. anything can set you off . If not sure , don`t take it !

Reputable herbal sites are selling powdered ma huang with the ephedra alkaloids, is this illegal to buy? If so how can they be selling it w/o getting in trouble? Thanks.

As long as they don’t claim it’s Ephedra (or a replacement for it) or don’t claim that it’ll give the same benefits as Ephedra, it’s perfectly legal. The same thing applies to Red Yeast Rice that has naturally occuring Statins in it… you don’t need a prescription for it like you would need for a Statin drug.
Supplements can be sold on the market if they have an active ingredient that can be used as a drug as long as they don’t claim that it would be a replacement for the drug or list the quantity of that drug in it. Some call it a loophole with the FDA, but they can restrict drugs by the ingredient name, not things that naturally have the drug in it (because it’s not that purified compound). I hope I helped!

I have used Trimlife in the past with great results, but it doesn’t have ephedra anymore. There are a lot of choices on the market, I was wondering if anyone had first hand stories as to which ones are the best. FYI, I pair the pills with good diet and exercise, and I have about 15 LBS to lose from the 3 kids I had in 5 years. I am also very researched in the controversy of ephedra, so thank you for you concerns but I am only interested in answers from people who have used these products. Thanks!
Can I get some real answers? I specified I am well researches in the ephedra controversy, just want info on the best ones. Thank you.

no pills that contain ephedra are good. They will kill you (if you use them for very long). don’t you remember all the hype that was going around about 5 years ago about ephedra – it was causing heart attacks and not to mention people died from it

Ephedra Diet Supplements The Legal Challenges Continue

The Ephedra Diet Supplements status in the U.S.? The FDA (Food and Drug Admin.) announced in 2008 they were banning the ephedra diet supplements. In 2004 they 1st published a rule that stated that any dietary supplement that contained ephedrine alkaloids presented an unnecessary risk of injury or illness. Fighting the supplements industry for quite some time, the FDA was then able to ban such products.

They had received well over 800 complaints that linked ephedra to headaches, dizziness, psychosis, chest pains, strokes and seizures. Some of the states actually banned the produce before FDA even acted. Since it is said that taking these on a regular basis can cause the heart stay in high gear too much and cause heart attacks to those staying on them for long periods of times like for weight loss.

These manufacturers didn’t take it too well and did not go without fighting. Two made an effect with the US District Court in Jersey and entered a temporary injunction hoping to stop the FDA from this ruling. But the courts did not agree with that, making that sage continue even when the pills aren’t permitted on the market.

Many of the dieters loved the benefits of ephedra supplements since they lost weight with no exercise or actual dieting. There aren’t many of these worldwide supplements that can initiate weight loss with no exercise. One study showed subjects who lost ten lbs of fat in six weeks while taking 20 milligrams ephedrine, 200 milligram caffeine and 325 milligrams of aspirin for three times daily and no exercise.

Ephedra is a stimulant that occurs in our central nervous systems naturally. Now made chemically, it is a stimulant that can be taken from Ephedra equisetina plants. Although it is not as long acting and is less potent than methamphetamines, is it related closely to them.

In order to reach their desired weight loss more quickly, dieters have combined ephedra with aspirin and caffeine. They are now marking products with “ephedra leaves” now that the ephedra supplements have been banned. Many complain these are not a good sub for the original. Dieters say that Ephedra leaves are ineffective, even though they are legal to take.

This battle is however not over. Manufacturers as well as dieters are still trying to fight back to make these ephedra weight loss products available and legal once again.
