Green tea is added to many weight loss supplements because it contains two types of caffiene like substances. Theophylline (which is stronger than caffeine) and theobromine (which is slightly weaker). Due to the caffiene content, greent tea has been shown to increase the metabolic rate.

Green tea has also been shown to slow the action of a digestive enzyme called amylase. Amylase breaks down starches (carbs), which can help regulate blood sugar levels after a meal.

Available Forms:

Green tea is sold in capulse form and as liquid extracts made from the leaves and buds.

Precautions:

As with all herbs, Green tea can contain components which will trigger side effects and interact with medications, supplements or other herbs. You should always consult your health care provider before taking a new supplement.
